It is a Sunday in Coimbatore, a quarter past eleven in the morning, and Girish has run out of things to do. He has read both newspapers. He has walked around the garden and told the gardener something the gardener already knew. His wife, Revathi, is on the phone to her sister. His son, home from college, is asleep. The house is quiet and pleasant and he feels, moving through it, a rising discomfort that he has never examined and that he would describe, if asked, as restlessness.
