About
idinsayit is a publication about the inside of a life: psychology, addiction, recovery, work, the people we are attached to, and the sentences we use to describe all of it.
It exists because most writing about the mind arrives in one of two registers. There is the clinical register, which is accurate and unreadable, and there is the wellness register, which is readable and largely untrue. This publication tries for a third: essays that take the evidence seriously and take the reader seriously at the same time, and that are willing to stay inside a difficulty rather than resolve it in the last paragraph.
The pieces here are written slowly. Some are reported, some are argued, some are personal history, and some are fiction or poems, because there are things about a mind that only fiction has ever managed to say. Anything that touches clinical ground is read by a clinician before it is published; where that has happened, the piece says so and says nothing more.
Bylines are not printed. The work is signed idinsayit and is meant to be read that way: as a publication with a position rather than a person with a following. Where a headline would ordinarily carry a name, it carries the section and the reading time instead, so that you know what you are about to spend and on what.
New writing appears here, and a letter goes out with it. Pieces marked free stay free to read. A subscription opens the rest and pays for the time the writing takes.
