Masthead
idinsayit is edited, written, illustrated and maintained by a small standing masthead, listed here by function rather than by name, which is the same principle the bylines follow.
Editorial
Editor. Commissions, edits and publishes everything that appears here, and is answerable for all of it.
Clinical review. Reads every piece that touches diagnosis, treatment, medication or risk before it is published. Where a piece has been through that reading it carries the line “Reviewed by a clinician”, dated. That line is the whole of the credential: no names, no letters after them, no appeal to authority the piece has not earned on the page.
Contributors. Essays, fiction and poems are commissioned and are paid for. Work published here is signed by the publication; contributors are credited in the contract rather than on the page, by agreement and in advance.
Sections and departments
Six sections: The Mind, Recovery, Relationships, Work, Society, and The Written Life. Departments run across them and are printed above the headline: The Interior, Annals of Addiction, Annals of Attachment, Dept. of Ambition, The Social Self, Personal History, Fiction, Poems, Marginalia and Books.
Standards
Nothing here is sponsored, and no piece is written to a brief set by anyone who stands to gain from it. There is no advertising. Clinical claims are sourced, and the source is one you can go and read.
Corrections are made on the page, dated, and described. Nothing is edited quietly after publication.
Case material is composite or de-identified, and a piece says which. A client’s own material appears only where they have given written consent, at a time when they were not in active care, freely refusable and withdrawable afterwards. Refusing costs nothing and changes nothing about anyone’s care. The Corrections and Editorial Standards page sets out how that works.
Correspondence
Letters and pitches are welcome and are read. This publication does not carry comment threads; the letter is the correspondence page, and replies to it reach the editors.
A correction is a different thing and has a route of its own: write to iam@idinsayit.com with correction in the subject line, the address of the piece, the passage you mean, and what it should say instead. It is acknowledged within 48 hours and answered in writing, whichever way it goes.
