It begins, on this particular Sunday, with a wet towel on the bed. Aditi sees it at ten to seven in the evening, on her side, on the cover she changed that morning. She picks it up between two fingers, as one would a dead thing, and carries it to the living room, where Karthik is watching the second innings.

“Seriously?” she says.
